THE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS MUSEUM VISIT
Thursday, 14 March, leaving the hotel at 6:00PM
Although the Musical Instruments Museum has existed for over a hundred years, it moved to the former department store of Old England and changed its name to MIM. This iron and glass building, a treasure of Art Nouveau architecture, was designed in 1898 by Paul Saintenoy and built in the prolongation of an old neo-classical mansion in the Place Royale. But the real appeal is the Sound system: an appreciable innovation at the MIM is the new sound system, which uses infra-red headphones. At their own pace, visitors stop to admire a beautiful instrument - going from ancient Greece to the mid 20th century - and listen to musical works played on the displayed instruments. A sheer delight!
